FAQs
-
Frequently Asked Questions that we most often receive.
-
Many of these questions are answered in our Full Ruleset.
-
Are these events paintball or airsoft?
-
Airsoft only; we don't allow paintball markers.
-
-
What is airsoft?
-
Airsoft is a hobby in which participants shoot opponents with spherical plastic projectiles launched via replica air weapons called airsoft replicas.
-
Airsoft BBs do not mark their target, and hits are not always visibly apparent. Though the pellets can leave marks on exposed skin, the game relies heavily on an honor system in which the person who has been hit is responsible for calling themselves out.
-
-
If I get hit, am I "out" for the entire event?
-
No - you will "respawn" at a designated area and re-enter the game. This downtime is usually 5-15 minutes.
-
-
What is LARP?
-
LARP is an acronym for Live Action Role-Play.
-
Participants physically portray their characters while pursuing goals within a fictional setting represented by the real world while interacting with each other (in character). The outcome of participants' actions may be mediated by event rules or determined by consensus among participants.
-
-
Do I have to create a character?
-
No, but you do have to participate within the spirit of the event. If this is your first time doing something like this, we recommend roleplaying as yourself within the scope of the post-apocalyptic setting. Once you gain more experience, you can experiment with creating a persona.
-
-
What is bushcraft?
-
Bushcraft is about thriving in the natural environment, and the acquisition of the skills and knowledge to do so. Bushcraft skills include firecraft, shelter-building, navigation by natural means, the use of tools such as knives and axes, foraging, water sourcing, hand-carving wood, container construction from natural materials, and rope and twine-making, among others.
-
-
What if I don't know how to bushcraft?
-
That's fine - there will be several people in your community who do. They will be more than willing to teach you the basics throughout the course of the event.
-
-
What should I expect from this event?
-
You should expect to be physically, mentally, and emotionally challenged for the 40-hour duration of the event. You should also expect to have a memorable experience where you will see and do things not found at any other airsoft or LARP event. You will also meet other amazing people who you will forge friendships with that will last long after the event is over.
-
-
What type of person does well at an Omega Event? Is this type of event for me?
-
If you are a proactive person and the idea of an open world sandbox where you can create your own interactions and activities is appealing - our events are FOR YOU.
-
If you want to try something other than the traditional force-on-force experience and the notion of non-lethal encounters with unfriendly characters is exciting - our events are FOR YOU.
-
If you are someone who loves airsoft, LARP, camping, hanging out with friends and you want to combine all of these things in one weekend - our events are FOR YOU.
-
If you are a reactive person and expect the game to come to you rather than going out and making things happen - our events are probably NOT FOR YOU.
-
If you expect to be told what to look for, who to shoot, and what "missions" to complete - our events are probably NOT FOR YOU.
-
If you think that our events are competitions that can be "won" and "lost" by individuals or "teams" - our events are definitely NOT FOR YOU.
-
-
What items do I need for this event?
-
Our Recommended Gear List shows all the items that you are required to bring with you into the gameplay area. If this is your first event, we recommend following this list closely.
-
-
Do I need to be in good physical shape to complete this 40+ hour event?
-
You should be able to carry all of the gear and sustenance that you will need for the weekend roughly 1 mile to your starting community location. You should also be able to sustain your level of activity with the appropriate amount of food, water, and rest. Our events are not about being a physical specimen; they're about knowing your limits and not over-encumbering yourself.
-
-
What is the minimum age for participation?
-
Young adults 13 and above can participate. However, anyone aged 15 or younger will need a parent or guardian to complete the event with them.
-
-
What gear will I need - isn't airsoft and camping gear expensive?
-
Airsoft and camping gear can be expensive, but good, reliable gear can be found inexpensively online. Our Amazon List has everything you need for one of our events without breaking the bank.
-
-
I've never played airsoft before - will I still have fun at this event?
-
We have several individuals at every event who have never played airsoft or LARPed prior to attending. Gun fighting skills and heavy roleplay are not required. We just ask that you keep an open mind and proactively seek out opportunities within the event to engage with NPCs and other participants.
-
-
I've never camped overnight before - will I be able to handle two nights camping?
-
As long as you come prepared with all of the items on our gear checklist, you'll be fine. For first timers, we recommend that you have a tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, and plenty of warm clothing, as these are the items that are most often overlooked by event rookies.
-
-
How much water and food should/can I bring?
-
Participants are permitted to begin the event with up to 1-gallon of food (in a Ziploc bag) and 1-gallon of water. We strongly encourage all participants to take advantage of these allowances, as you don't know when good food or potable water will be available to you during the event.
-
-
Can I wear tactical gear to an Omega Event?
-
Yes, BUT it needs to fit within the despairing, post-apocalyptic theme of our events by appearing dirty, ragged, and otherwise disheveled. If you show up to an event with a clean milsim loadout, you'll be asked to change. Remember - "Do More with Less!"
-
-
Can I leave the gameplay area during an event to use a regular restroom?
-
Yes. Leaving the gameplay area to use restroom facilities is permitted without penalty to the participant.
-
-
What electronics am I permitted to bring?
-
You are required to bring a radio, flashlight, and red "dead" light.
-
You are permitted to mount a flashlight on your weapon so long as it is lashed or strapped on with tape or zip ties; picatinny attachments are not permitted.
-
-
You are permitted to bring your mobile phone and spare batteries with you into the gameplay area.
-
You are prohibited from bringing electronic weapon-mounted optics/scopes, lasers, night vision goggles/optics, or thermal optics.
-
-
How can I become an NPC?
-
We love that so many participants want to become NPCs to add extra layers of immersion to the event. We do require that everyone complete at least one event as a regular participant before being invited to become an NPC. Existings NPCs are always on the look out for new NPCs. After each event, we get together to discuss who we will ask to join our staff. Please do not message us about becoming an NPC - we'll reach out to you if we think that you have the correct skills and abilities to join our team of NPCs.
-
You don't have to be an NPC to have a cool background and story arc. Regular participants can create their own awesome characters that contribute to the immersive, post-apocalyptic atmosphere of the event.
